Last September I had the opportunity to accompany Chief of the Defence Staff General Walter Natynczyk and his personal staff on a whirlwind trip south of the border to witness his induction into the U.S. Army War College Hall of Fame. There was also a formal partners in defence evening function at the Canadian Embassy on the second night of the trip, but that morning the CDS was m official guest at the Pentagon. Informed that I was not included on the Pentagon's guest list, I was somewhat mollified to learn that Natynczyk's wife was also without an invitation to visit the U.S. military headquarters. It was a bright and sunny fall day and, suddenly finding myself with time on my hands, I started to plot a leisurely day of sightseeing on Capitol Hill. Those hopes were dashed when Leslie Natynczyk extended an invitation for me to accompany her on a visit to the Walter Reed U.S. Army Medical Center. Of course, I accepted.
